http://www.andreasroom.com/blog/archive/2004/01/18/defrag.aspxThanks for your help. But this wasn't my problem. My problem was that DCOM
Server Process Launcher in the services utility was set to manual. I set it
to automatic, rebooted, went to defrag, it worked like it was new. This also
was the problem in the help and support section with system tools and the
view advanced system info. All the information accessable was visible. No
more problems. This is weird that one service was set to manual, yet when I
checked dependences there were none ...
I tried to defrag my c-drive but I got order to run "chkdsc /f" for the
disc. I did that quite a many times but nothing happened during booting.
Then suddenly chkdsk started to work while booting without asked to
do that. Now I have three problems:
1. chkdsc cannot do its job because it can't get the c-drive at its disposal
(something locks the c-drive?)
2. chkdisk keeps doing the same useless check on every single boot.
3. defrag still does not work

Not really looking for third party software or other kinds of ways... I'd
think we could correct this somehow ...
Defrag in the old days used to run for a while and move fragmented files up
in the DriveSpace temporarily, then move unfragmented data down so that
most of free space ended up at the top. It would then collect all the
fragmented files and putting them (unfragmented) either within the
contiguous file area ( ... still leaves many fragmented clusters and lots of spaces. If you
run 'analyse' again immediately afterward it tells you that the drive needs
deframenting. Is it giving up before it has really finished? Or what is

Did you read the report defag produces? What did it say?
Did you run Analyze first? If you didn't, run it now and see if in
fact you need to defrag.I have two disks I analyze them both before defraging. They both need it.
They both have fiels that :could not be defragmented" when the defrag
