I'm using a Digidesign Mbox for various audio projects. Sound goes through
it fine, but the problem is it won't appear as an option for a default audio
recording device. It will however show up as a default audio playback
device. How can I solve this?RTFM?I am very happy with the configuration of my M-Audio Firewire Solo external

What I'm having to major issue withpresently is how WMP11 sets up Audio

RE: Volume in Windows Media Player
The volume is already set to maximum (slider all of the way to the
right), yet it is still too low (and I have excellent hearing).
How would I make the volume higher?
Barry KarasOpen Windows Media Player and from the Toolbar select:
Play > Volume > Up (F10)
Windows XP - Shell/User
Get Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Advanced Security Technologies:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/windowsxp/choose.mspxI tried it - and it doesn't work - unless it takes an awfully long
time or many, many F10s.
Previously my default player was W/Media Player. Somehow the settings
have been changed to make WinDVD the default player.
How do I reset the default player to WMP?
BenOpen WMP and go to Tools-Options-File Types and check what file types

You know how the volume control on an old radio crackles when you change
the volume? Well, my Windows XP seems to be on the "olde radio" category
- when I move the volume slider up and down I get crackles, but only
from the left-hand speaker.
Bizarre, eh? Any chance I'll find a cure for it?
You can buy cans of stuff to spray into the volume control, but where
would I find it (or where would I get virtual volume control spray?Places like Radio Shack sell cans of 'high dielectric" (non-conducting) spray
to clean electrical contact points. The place to use it will probably be
where the wire to the speaker connects to the left speaker. It would probably
not help the keyboard.
I am getting more and more problems each day. This is the first error which

I transferred some data to my USB drive. ( right click-send to E:) I went to
retrieve it and get the message the volume label is too long. Then I tried
to retrieve some older data, that I had previously been able to access, and
get the same message. It ends up I get the same message for all files on the
USB drive. This drive has always worked and never been on any other machine.
Any ideas what causes this message and how to get too the files?
ThanksDid you name the USB drive, I'm not sure if that is it but if you have set
the drive label to something long it might be.
NeilThanks for your reply. I didn't name the drive. I just inserted it and XP

Hello, I have been to the following page (that I am pasting) which describes
the exact error message I am getting. I have followed the instructions to
bring my volume control back to my toolbar, though when I attempt, I get a

of the processes/services starting up @ login, including each of their
CPU and memory usage statistics, at any given point during the login.
So here are my questions...
1) What is the best method to "time" a login duration? Is there
software for this?
2) At what point is the user considered "logged in"? Is it when the
CPU usage stays below a certain number?
3) Which tools or utilities would be best fitted for recording services
and processes running @ login, as well as their corresponding memory
useage and CPU usage statistics at any given point in the login? (we'd
like to be able to chart this if possible)
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.Anyone? =)
Whenever I go in to "My Pictures" the files are displayed as thumbnails, this is starting to drive me nuts since I have so many files. Does anyone know how to change the default icon in a specific folder, so I don't have to go to the top and manually change. Please help me, although it is very trivial, it's starting to become quite a headache.
Thanks. When you have a folder open go to "Veiw" at the top and set your
preferance. Under "tools" go to "folder options" to set the defaults.
... my question. The sequence is...
* Click down on slider
* Move slider up/down
* Unclick (click up)
* The loud "Notification Bell"
It's that "Notification Bell" that I want to change or eliminate.
Thanks.Don't click and hold the slider to move it up and down.
With the Volume control displayed, spin the scroll wheel on your mouse forward
This should raise or lower the slider on the Volume control without setting off
the default beep.
NepatsfanAhhh... that does work, albiet a bit slow...
Thanks...Another solution - usually this beep is actually sent to the internal
speaker on the computer. Some computers route this through the sound
card. You may be able to either disconnect a wire inside the computer,
or turn the ...
... quadrophonic speaker setup for my computer, running windows XP pro.
However, I have to reset the speaker set up in the control panel each time I
restart my computer. It defaults to stereo desktop speakers. I have tried
changing my sound card but the problem remains, leading me to believe that
it is a systems problem. Can anyone help me? Is there somewhere in the
registry that contains your default speaker settings?Hmm.........sure sounds like a sound blaster card. If you open some other
program that requires audio and does not support a quad set up that program
makes it revert back to stereo.
Also, if you are using the drivers from the Windows Update site, trash them
and install the drivers from Creative. Same thing happened to me when I

I have one of those little knobs on my keyboard that controls the volume. It
doesn't work anymore. I have no clue why because it just stopped working one

I have done everything to try to get my volume to work on
my speakers. I even recently bought new speakers
thinking it was my old speakers. PLEASE HELP!!! I WANT
SOUND!!So you went and wasted money of a new set of speakers without considering
what else is involved in the production of sound?! Into what component do
you plug the speakers...? How is sound produced by the computer? Work that
out and you have your answer....
... go to the "sounds and audio devices"
application, then select the "sounds" tab, and select any of the sounds
at the bottom ("Asterix", "Critical Stop", etc...) and hit the little
play icon, the sound is still very low. HOWEVER, if I browse directly
to the directory that contains these sound files ("windows\media") and
double click any of them, windows media player will launch and play the
sound at normal volume.
Another example of my issue is the sounds launched during the autoplay
of application / game CDs. Again, if I simply have the cd autoplay,
it's launch sound is much too low, but if I browse to the autoplay
directory and double click on the appropriate .wav file, it sounds at a
I have installed a Terratec sound device and have configured it to play all
sounds including midi..
I can play mp3s and CDs OK but the Volume Control Options has the Advanced

can tick MIDI.
The only options it allows are Wave, SW Synth and CD Player.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Recently, whenever i change the volume using volume control on one user account, i get an annoying error beep instead of the normal sound. I saw one question similar to this one, and one person recomended changing the "default beep" under Control
Panel|SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES|SOUNDS tab. However, my computer does not have the program event "default beep". How do you change the beep into another sound? Any help would be greatly appreciated.PROBLEM FIXED!!! PLEASE IGNORE MESSAGE
OK i started noticing my sounds were not playing so i check my sound and

volume to my speakers. When I go into volume control it lets me turn them up
but as soon as I un-click the mouse it automaticaly goes back done to
nothing. I'm at a loss any suggestions would be appreciated.
ThanksDid you make sure your sound card is compatible with XP.
Try updating your sound card drivers for XP.Enough with the drivers already! My computer does the same ,slide up volume
and watch it slide down on it's own when you let go of the mouse. All drivers
are in, the system was working fine, then next time I went to play HL2 I
could hardly hear it. Went through all trouble shooting with XP Trouble
shooter-it gave up! If you turn speaker volume (at Speakers) then try sliding
up the volume settings you get a loud gong before slider ...
Whenever I right-click SavePictureAs for an image, I only get .bmp and 'untitled' as the filename. Yet when I select SaveTargetAs, and the target is a graphics file, the file name and file type come up. Whenever I open or save a file i always see the default "view" is set
to "List". I can change it by selecting the "view menu" and I can
change it to: Thumbnails, Tiles, Icon, List, Details etc.
I prefer to set a system wide preference to ALWAYS have the default
view be "Details".
How can I do this? The last view options used should remain as the default view.
For example in MS Word: Create a sample document > Save the document > In
the Save As dialogue box, change the view to details > Click the Save button.
The next time you save, the view should remain in Details view. That’s true
with opening files. Maybe there is another user on your machine that prefers
the list view.
